The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the SSC CHSL Recruitment 2026 notification for the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination. The recruitment is being conducted for various Group C posts, including Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC), Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), Data Entry Operator (DEO) and Data Entry Operator Grade ‘A’ in Central Government Ministries, Departments, Offices, and other organizations.

According to the official notification, there are approximately 2,536 tentative vacancies. The final number of vacancies will be confirmed later after the vacancies reported by the concerned departments are scrutinized.

The SSC CHSL 2026 online application process has started on September 7, 2026, and eligible candidates can submit their applications through the official SSC website. The last date to apply is October 7, 2026, up to 11:00 PM.

SSC CHSL Vacancy 2026

SSC has announced approximately 2,536 tentative vacancies for CHSL 2026. The recruitment covers posts such as:

  • Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC)
  • Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA)
  • Data Entry Operator (DEO)
  • Data Entry Operator Grade ‘A’

The Commission has clarified that the vacancy figure is tentative. The final vacancies, including post-wise and category-wise vacancies, will be published later on the SSC website. SSC does not collect state-wise or zone-wise vacancies for this examination.

SSC CHSL 2026 Eligibility

Educational Qualification

Candidates applying for LDC/JSA and most DEO/DEO Grade ‘A’ posts must have passed the 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized board or university.

However, candidates applying for DEO/DEO Grade ‘A’ posts in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Staff Selection Commission, and Ministry of Culture must have passed Class 12 in the Science stream with Mathematics as a subject.

Candidates who have appeared for their Class 12 examination can also apply, but they must possess the required qualification by October 7, 2026. The result of the qualifying examination must have been declared by the cutoff date.

Age Limit

The age limit is 18 to 27 years as on August 1, 2026.

Candidates should have been born between August 2, 1999, and August 1, 2008, both dates inclusive.

Age relaxation is available as per Government of India rules. The notification specifies:

  • SC/ST – 5 years
  • OBC – 3 years
  • PwBD – 10 years
  • PwBD (OBC) – 13 years
  • PwBD (SC/ST) – 15 years
  • Ex-Servicemen—as prescribed in the notification

Other eligible categories also receive relaxation according to the applicable rules.

SSC CHSL Application Fee

The application fee is ₹100.

Women candidates and candidates belonging to the SC, ST, PwBD, and eligible Ex-Servicemen categories are exempted from paying the application fee. The fee can be paid through online payment methods such as BHIM UPI, net banking, and eligible debit cards.

The last date for online fee payment is October 8, 2026, up to 11:00 PM.

SSC CHSL 2026 Selection Process

The SSC CHSL examination will be conducted in two tiers:

  1. Tier-I
  2. Tier-II

Candidates will first appear for Tier-I. Those shortlisted based on their Tier-I performance will appear for Tier-II.

Tier-I Exam Pattern

Tier-I consists of four subjects:

The examination duration is 60 minutes, with a sectional timer of 15 minutes for each subject. There is a negative marking of 0.50 marks for every wrong answer.

Tier-II Exam Pattern

Tier-II consists of four sections:

  • Section I: Mathematical Abilities and Reasoning & General Intelligence
  • Section II: English Language & Comprehension and General Awareness
  • Section III: Computer Knowledge Test
  • Section IV: Skill Test/Typing Test

Sections I and II carry 180 marks each, while the Computer Knowledge Test carries 45 marks. The Computer Knowledge Test and Skill/Typing Test are qualifying in nature.

There is 1 mark of negative marking for each wrong answer in Sections I, II and III of Tier-II.

For LDC/JSA, the typing test is conducted in either English or Hindi. Candidates choosing English need a typing speed of 35 words per minute, while Hindi requires 30 words per minute.

For DEO posts, the skill test requires a data-entry speed of 8,000 key depressions per hour, while specified DEO posts require 15,000 key depressions per hour.

SSC CHSL Final Selection

The final merit list is prepared based on the candidate’s overall performance in Tier-II, with marks from Sections I and II used for merit, subject to qualifying the required sections.

The minimum qualifying marks are

  • UR – 30%
  • OBC/EWS – 25%
  • All other categories – 20%

Post and department preferences are also important. Once submitted, the preferences are treated as final and irreversible. Candidates who do not submit their post preferences within the prescribed period will not be considered for posts in the final allocation.

Candidates can apply online through the new SSC website.

  1. Visit the official SSC website.
  2. Complete One-Time Registration (OTR) on the new SSC website.
  3. Log in using the registered credentials.
  4. Select the Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination, 2026.
  5. Fill in the required educational and personal details.
  6. Select the preferred examination centers and other options.
  7. Choose the typing test medium where applicable.
  8. Review the application carefully.
  9. Pay the application fee, if applicable.
  10. Submit the application and save/print a copy for future reference.

SSC has specifically stated that candidates who have not generated an OTR on the new website must create a new OTR; an OTR created on the old SSC website will not work on the new website.
