The Department of Posts has issued the GDS Online Engagement Schedule-II, July-2026 notification on 20 August 2026.

India Post GDS Vacancies 2026

The notification invites applications for vacant Gramin Dak Sevak posts in different offices of the Department of Posts. The vacancy position is provided division-wise through the GDS Online Engagement Portal.

The three categories of GDS posts covered under this recruitment are Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak. Candidates will be able to view eligible vacancies based on factors such as community, age, PwBD status and local language while selecting their Division and post preferences.
For candidates applying in the Telangana Postal Circle, Telugu is the prescribed local language.

India Post GDS Posts and Job Profile

Branch Postmaster (BPM)

The BPM is responsible for the day-to-day functioning of the Branch Post Office and India Post Payments Bank services. The duties can include postal operations, mail conveyance and delivery, marketing of postal products and services and other duties assigned by senior officers.

Selected BPM candidates are required to arrange accommodation for the Branch Post Office at their own cost and must reside in the post village where the Branch Office is functioning.

Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)

The ABPM assists the BPM in postal operations. Duties include the sale of stamps and stationery, conveyance and doorstep delivery of mail, IPPB transactions and customer service activities.

An ABPM may also be required to perform BPM duties when ordered or when the BPM is unavailable. ABPMs are required to reside within the delivery jurisdiction of the concerned Branch Office.

Dak Sevak

Dak Sevaks may work in Post Offices, Sorting Offices, Mail Offices, Transit Mail Offices, Delivery Centres and other offices of the Department of Posts.

Their duties can include handling and delivery of mail and parcels, postal transactions, assisting Postmasters and other office operations. They may also be assigned marketing, business procurement and other duties by senior officers.

GDS Salary 2026

Gramin Dak Sevaks are paid through the Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA) system. The notification specifies the following initial TRCA slabs:

The TRCA carries an annual increase of 3%, subject to the applicable conditions. GDS employees are also entitled to Dearness Allowance and certain other allowances and social-security benefits under the applicable GDS rules.

Candidates should note that GDS are not regular Central Government employees, and their service conditions and entitlements are governed by the Gramin Dak Sevaks (Conduct and Engagement) Rules, 2020.

Postal GDS Eligibility 2026

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have passed the Secondary School Examination (10th standard) with passing marks in Mathematics and English from a recognised Board of School Education.

Candidates must also have studied the prescribed local language at least up to 10th standard. For Telangana, the prescribed local language is Telugu.

Age Limit

The prescribed age limit is:

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Maximum age: 40 years

The age is calculated as on the last date of submission of the online application.

Upper-age relaxation is available as follows:

  • SC/ST: 5 years
  • OBC: 3 years
  • PwBD: 10 years
  • PwBD + OBC: 13 years
  • PwBD + SC/ST: 15 years
  • EWS: No upper-age relaxation

Candidates must also have knowledge of computers, knowledge of cycling and adequate means of livelihood.

India Post GDS Selection Process 2026

One of the major points of this recruitment is that candidates are shortlisted through a system-generated merit list.

The merit list is prepared using marks obtained in the 10th-standard Secondary School Examination, with the marks aggregated to a percentage accurate to four decimal places.

Where applicable, the Department has specified procedures for converting grades or grade points into marks. For example, the notification provides a multiplication factor of 9.5 for specified grade-point conversions.

After shortlisting, candidates have to undergo physical verification of original documents. Shortlisted candidates are required to report to the designated authority within the prescribed period.

GDS Application Fee

The application fee is ₹100 for applicable candidates.

The fee is exempted for:

  • Female candidates
  • SC/ST candidates
  • PwBD candidates
  • Transwomen candidates

Eligible candidates can pay the fee through available online payment methods including credit/debit cards, net banking and UPI. The fee, once paid, is not refundable.
