Female Navik (GD), Yantrik, Navik (DB) and Hygienist-I recruitment is conducted on an all-India basis.
Educational Qualification
The minimum qualification depends on the post. Candidates should check the accepted qualification carefully before choosing a post in the application.
| Post | Required Qualification |
|---|---|
| Navik (General Duty) | Class 12 pass with Maths and Physics from a board recognised by COBSE |
| Navik (Domestic Branch) | Class 10 pass from a board recognised by COBSE |
| Yantrik | Class 10 plus an eligible 3- or 4-year engineering diploma, or Class 10 and Class 12 plus an eligible 2- or 3-year engineering diploma |
| Hygienist-I | Matriculation, ITI or equivalent qualification recognised by the Central or State Government |
Yantrik Diploma Branches
For Yantrik posts, the accepted diploma disciplines include Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics and Telecommunication (Radio/Power) Engineering, subject to the notification’s approved qualification list.
The advertisement also lists equivalent diploma branches, such as Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electrical Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (Production), Automobile Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and other specified branches.
A diploma holder should compare the exact course title with the equivalent-diploma list in the official advertisement. A broadly similar course name does not automatically establish eligibility.
Candidates must enter their subject-wise and aggregate marks correctly in the application. Incorrect or incomplete marks information can lead to cancellation of candidature.
Age Limit
The permitted date-of-birth range differs by post and batch.
| Post | Eligible Date of Birth |
|---|---|
| Navik (GD), batches 01/2027 and 02/2027 | 1 November 2005 to 1 May 2009 |

Age relaxation is available as follows:
- OBC candidates: 3 years
- SC/ST candidates: 5 years
Candidates should use the date-of-birth range applicable to their chosen post rather than relying on a general age-limit calculation.
Indian Coast Guard Salary
The basic pay depends on the cadre.
| Post | Basic Pay | Pay Level |
|---|---|---|
| Navik (General Duty) | ₹21,700 per month | Level 3 |
| Navik (Domestic Branch) | ₹21,700 per month | Level 3 |
| Hygienist-I | ₹21,700 per month | Level 3 |
| Yantrik | ₹29,200 per month | Level 5 |
Yantrik personnel also receive Yantrik Pay of ₹6,200, in addition to Dearness Allowance and other applicable allowances. The other cadres receive Dearness Allowance and allowances based on the nature of duty and place of posting.
The notification also mentions benefits such as free ration and clothing under the applicable rules, medical treatment for the employee and eligible family members, government accommodation or HRA, leave and Leave Travel Concession, pension under NPS or UPS as applicable, gratuity and canteen facilities. A ₹75 lakh insurance cover through the Naval Group Insurance Fund is also specified, subject to the prescribed monthly contribution and applicable rules.
Selection Process
The Coast Guard recruitment process has four stages. Candidates must qualify at every required stage and meet the prescribed medical standards.
Stage I: Computer-Based Examination
Stage I is a one-hour objective examination containing 100 questions, with each question carrying one mark. The paper is bilingual in Hindi and English, and there is no negative marking for wrong answers.
The minimum qualifying marks are:
| Category | Passing Marks |
|---|---|
| UR, EWS and OBC | 40 |
| SC and ST | 35 |
If the examination is held in multiple shifts, marks will be normalised. The Stage-I result will be available through the candidate’s dashboard.
Stage II: Physical Fitness Test and Verification
Candidates shortlisted from Stage I will be called for Stage II at the designated Coast Guard recruitment centres. This stage includes identity and biometric verification, a Physical Fitness Test (PFT), an Assessment and Adaptability Test, document verification and a recruitment medical examination.
The PFT requirements are:
| Test | Male Candidates | Female Candidates |
|---|---|---|
| 1.6 km run | 6 minutes 30 seconds | 8 minutes |
| Squats (Uthak-Baithak) | 20 | 15 |
| Push-ups | 15 | 10 |
| Bent-knee sit-ups | 15 | 10 |
All four activities must be completed continuously, without a break. Candidates should begin preparing well in advance rather than waiting for the Stage-II call letter.
The Assessment and Adaptability Test is qualifying in nature. Its marks are not included in the final merit score, although the notification allows the marks to be used as a tie-breaker in specified circumstances.
Stage III: Final Shortlisting and Pre-Enrolment Checks
Candidates who clear Stage I and Stage II and rank within the available vacancies may be shortlisted to report to INS Chilka. This stage includes identity verification, document checks, medical examination and submission of the required forms and certificates.
Candidates must also provide police verification and other prescribed documents. Those who do not meet the requirements may lose their candidature.
Stage IV: Original Document Authentication
At Stage IV, the Coast Guard verifies the authenticity of educational and other original documents with the relevant boards, universities or government authorities. If any document is found to be inauthentic, the candidate may be terminated from service in accordance with the applicable rules.
Physical and Medical Standards
The notification specifies minimum height standards of 157 cm for male candidates and 152 cm for female candidates. Relaxations are available for certain regions and communities, subject to the conditions in the advertisement.
For male candidates, the minimum chest circumference is 77 cm, with at least 5 cm of chest expansion. Weight must be proportionate to height and age, and candidates must meet the applicable hearing, dental, eyesight and general medical requirements.
Vision standards differ by branch. For example, the General Duty branch requires 6/6 vision in the better eye and 6/9 in the worse eye, and candidates using glasses are not eligible for that branch. Applicants should read the full medical standards before applying, particularly if they have any concern about eyesight or physical eligibility.
The notification states that persons with disabilities are not eligible for this recruitment because the Indian Coast Guard is an Armed Force under the Ministry of Defence.
Application Fee
The examination fee is ₹550, payable online through the available payment methods, including net banking, cards and UPI.
SC/ST candidates applying against eligible SC/ST vacancies are exempt from the fee. The exemption does not automatically extend to every reserved category. The fee, once paid, is non-refundable.
